Born on February 12, 1956, Hall grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. Son of Anne and Fred Hall, Arsenio performed as a magician when he was young. He completed his schooling from John F. Kennedy High School and Warrensville Heights High School. Thereafter he got enrolled into Ohio University.

To pursue a career in acting, he moved to Los Angeles and first made an appearance on Soul Train. Then he even worked in a short-lived talk show “Thicke of the Night”, along with Alan Thicke in 1984. In between 1986 -1987, he voiced the character Winston Zeddemore in the cartoon The Real Ghostbusters.

Hall’s career gained momentum in 1987. As in 1986, Fox network came up with their new show “The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers”. However, after low rating and dispute in between Joan and Fox, the show became stagnant. The network tried many new hosts, also changing the name to “The Late Show”.

Hall was finalized and it turned beneficial both for the network and for him.
