Born to Horace Logan White and Christine Tess , Betty spent her formative years in Alhambra, California, while later she moved to Los Angeles. To support the family, her father used to sell radios as their financial condition was not good.
Horace enrolled Betty to Horace Mann School Beverly Hills, where she first showed interest in acting. Later she attended Beverly Hills High School. She aspired to become a forest ranger after graduation, however, being a woman, she could not pursue her passion. Later she focused her attention on acting and thus made her career in acting.
During her initial days, she was turned down by majority of the studios as she was “unphotogenic”, so she accepted a job as a radio host where looks were not an issue. After spending some time as a radio host, she later switched to telivsion and started hosting ” Hollywood on Television”.
