About :

Born on June 22, 1953, in Astoria, New York City, Lauper grew up in a Catholic family. Her mother, Catrine is an Italian American, while her father, Fred, was a Swiss descent. Spending her formative years in Ozone Park, from a young age she followed artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and The Beatles. Being passionate about music, she started playing guitar at the age 12 and also began writing her own songs

Her initial days were not easy as after running from home at age 17 due to her abusive stepfather, she first took some odd jobs to survive. During her struggling period, she also spent around two weeks in the woods just to discover her true self.

In 1970’s she first did stage shows, singing cover songs, however, she wanted to perform her own songs. Then in 1977 due to some issue, she damaged her vocal cords and thus refrained from signing for one year. Her doctors informed her that she might never sing again but instead of giving up she again regained her voice.
