Born on December 28, 1954, Denzel Hayes Washington, Jr spent his formative years in Mount Vernon, New York. His father, Denzel Hayes Washington, Sr was a Pentecostal minister while his mother, Lennis “Lynne” (née Lowe) owned a beauty parlor.
Until 1968, he studied at Pennington-Grimes Elementary School however after his parent’s separation he was enrolled in the Oakland Military Academy. For his further studies, Washington attended Fordham University in 1978 to earn a B.A in Drama and Journalism.
