George Harvey Strait, better known to the world as George Strait, is a talented musician, singer, music producer, songwriter and actor. In 1981, he rose to fame with his song “Unwound”, once it started playing on the radio. Later he wrote many singles and also worked on albums, thus gaining fame and popularity. Born on May 18, 1952, to Doris Couser and John Byron Strait, Sr, George grew up in Frio County. His family owned a ranch, where he used to work on the weekends. During his initial years at the Pearsall High School, he became interested in music and from there his hobby became his passion. Earlier he used to listen to The Beatles, then gradually he even enjoyed the works of other artists such as Hank Thompson, Merle Haggard, Lefty Frizzell, George Jones, Hank Williams and Bob Wills.
After completing High school, he studied at the Southwest Texas State University, where he studied subjects related to agriculture. Even during his college days, he joined Ace in the Hole Band and even performed at local bars and restaurants. Without any connections or family background, he played his music on numerous events and gained appreciation.
Subsequently, he released his first single in 1981 and the rest is well known.
