Born in New Rochelle, New York, to Angelo and Catherine, Jay grew up in Andover, Massachusetts. While studying at Emerson College, he got involved in acting and also began a comedy club.

On March 2, 1977, he first appeared on “The Tonight Show”, later in 1987, he was seen more often on the show, finally replacing the host Johnny Carson in 1992.  Thereafter his popularity grew immensely. Over the subsequent years, he has been starred in a number of Television series and Hollywood movies.

Personal Life:

Leno married Mavis in 1980 and by mutual consent, the couple does not have any children. As told by him, he just sleeps for maximum five hours and often spends time on checking out new cars or fixing the ones he already posses. It is also reported that the veteran actor never drinks, smokes or gamble .

In one interview he disclosed that he manages all his expenses from the earnings through his stand-up routines. The income from “The Tonight Show” remains untouched.
