Born on October 18, 1979, in Arkansas, Ne-Yo spent his formative years in Nevada, after his family shifted from Camden. During his days at Las Vegas Academy, he became a part of the group “Envy”. Nicknamed as “GoGo”, with his previous group, he performed at  MTV’s “The Cut” and also on “Showtime at the Apollo”.

After spending few years together, their group separated and thus Ne-Yo started his solo career. At first, he wrote songs for other artists however soon he released his own songs. Over the years, he also worked on movies such as Save the Last Dance 2 (2006), The Fresh Beat Band (2011), Never Mind the Buzzcocks (2012) and Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! (2015).
