One of my favorite, Oprah Winfrey is a true rags to riches personality. Born on January 29, 1954, She is an active media host, producer, actress and a philanthropist.
Best known for “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, she spent her childhood in Mississippi. Her mother was a housemaid and her father (as reported) was a coal miner. In many of her interviews one can see how she describes her hardships as a child. At the age of 14 she became a mother and then due to circumstances her little baby died in infancy.
She was really poor to afford good schooling and then to support her daily needs, Oprah even joined a local radio as a news reader. But eventually things changed and she got her own talk show. After that she made history and before turning 32, she became a millionaire. As of now Oprah Winfrey Net worth is 3.1 billion USD and is now the richest self made black woman in America.
2. Andrew Carnegie
Born in a poor family in Scotland, Andrew Carnegie saw poverty in his early days. The family lived in a one room house with meager resources to even fulfil the basic needs. For survival Carnegie along with his family moved to US and then soon he started his first job at the age of 13. At first working for 12 hours a day, he used to change the spools of thread in a Cotton factory.
As an avid reader he used to spend his spare time reading works of Rob Roy, William Wallace and Robert the Bruce.
Subsequently he even did some odd jobs in railway. Thereafter with experience and his keen sense of business he got into Steel and oil Companies.
Then finally after becoming the richest man in the world, he sold his companies to JP Morgan for a whooping $480 million and then started working as a philanthropist.
3. Li Ka-shing
With a staggering net worth of $28.6 Billion (as of 01/02/2016), Li ka shing is also an inspirational role model to look up to. He makes up at third position on our Rags to Riches list.
Born on July 29, 1928, he spent his childhood in Chaozhou, China. Before turning 16, he had already started working at a plastic manufacturing company, to support his family. From his early days, he started spending around 16 hours daily to work.
Then with his years of experience, some borrowed capital and a little money saved over time, Li Ka Shing started his own company which later turned into a vast empire.
As a richest man in China he is now active in Real Estate, Banking, Hotels, satellite Tv, Steels and Aviation etc.
