2017 may seem to be a promising year for the energetic actor however life was not always kind to him. Born on September 13, 1969, in New Orleans, Perry had a rough childhood. As from an early start, he was physically abused by his father, Emmitt Perry, Sr (not biological). He once said his father’s “answer to everything was to beat it out of you”. Perry has also revealed that he was at times molested by his friend’s mother, which deeply impacted him. Also when he was young, Perry tried committing suicide.

However, even after all this mess, it was his mother, who gave him some comfort. She took him and his siblings to church each week, where he sensed a certain refuge.

His first musical “I Know I’ve Been Changed” was initially motivated by a comment on The Oprah Winfrey Show. As in one episode, he learned that writing about difficult experiences could lead to personal breakthroughs. So in 1992, after saving $ 12,000, he debuted the show—which he directed, produced, and starred in. However, initially, it could not perform well and only lasted one weekend. With its failure, Tyler continued to work odd jobs while reworking the show. Due to his financial struggle, he even started sleeping in his car as he could not afford rent.
