Mainstream success (2010 – 2017)

Khalifa began his career in 2005. As one year prior to that, he had met Benjy Grinberg (president of Rostrum Records), who became interested in his music and thus soon signed him to a seven-year contract. Later in an interview to HitQuarters, Grinberg said “Even though he wasn’t all the way developed you could just tell that he was a diamond in the rough, and that with some polishing, guidance and backing he could become something special.”

After that, Wiz released many mixtapes, with decent success. During 2006, he was also included in Rolling Stone magazine’s article “artist to watch”. In 2007, he started working with Warner Bros Records. With the label, he again released a couple of records before moving to Atlantic Records in April 2010.

Khalifa’s career gained momentum in 2010 after he launched the track “Black and Yellow”. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, also bringing Wiz to the limelight. Thereafter he released his first ablbum with the record, before founding his own label “Taylor Gang Entertainment”.

Since then albums like Rolling Papers (2011), O.N.I.F.C. (2012) and Khalifa (2016) has made Wiz one of the most popular rapper.

Relationship with Amber – What went wrong?
